The #BikeNYC [link] blog run and photographed by Dmitry Gudkov [link] is sweet allowing a greater level of connectivness that other similar projects don't. In his own words the blog seeks to "Taken together, these images and stories begin to form a portrait of New York as an emerging cycling city."

Hit up the groups Facebook page [link] and hashtag that twitter handle #BikeNYC [link]

It's great to see this kind of project is building momentum with others cropping up and spreading the bike love.

Bicycle Portraits

Kleinbooi Kabinde - Kirschner rd., Boksburg, Gauteng, South Africa
 taken by Stan Engelbrecht

Stan Engelbrecht & Nic Grobler travelled the vast depths and breaths of South Africa on a two year sojourn to discover the faces of it's cycling culture. To which the portraits and now glossy coffee table book are testimate. I throughly encourage you to checkout thier great work here [link].

Straight from the horses mouth

" As you'll see we are not photographing people who ride purely for exercise or recreation, but instead we are focussing on those who use bicycles as an integral tool in their day-to-day existence."

amen to that.

Angelo Calilap's Bike/Portrait series

Using a similar visual aesthetic as Matthew Reamer's Scraper Bikes series www.matthewreamer.com/  , Angelo Calilap's Bike/Portrait series solidly documents both rider and thier lovingly modified steed.

Matthew Reamer's 'Scraper Bikes' series

Matthew Reamer's portrait/documentary series called 'Scraper Bikes' shows BMX owners from Oakland, who modify their bikes, in part, as a reaction to the violence that permeates their neighbourhoods. Here's to a world free of violence.
